Five weeks to Monterey

Golfers and non-golfers will assemble in Monterey in 36 days time. This is the first time WAGA have been to the area. The courses, the tours, the group, all should provide for a wonderful time for those who can make it. If you wish to participate but have not applied, please do so at your earliest as WAGA does have some reserve spots. Full and final payment is requested by 27th April!

The WAGA Spring Cup being held on the sunny Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, is proving very tempting to both golfers and non-golfers. The benefit of the charity day at the end of the Spring Cup is a further enticement and WAGA look forward to working with Variety Club on that day.

2013 – Work is in progress for three events, Las Vegas in April, Noosa in September and Phuket in late October. When details are confirmed, brochures will be prepared and placed on the website together with the appropriate registration form.

Happy golfing

A week of golf

What a week this has been. Last weekend was a round of Versus Par at Lakelands and then on the Sunday, a Texas Ambrose at the same course. Did not star in either round!

Monday it was off to Adelaide for the Qantas Nationals, an event for both current and retired staff. Accommodation was at the Adelaide Shores Resort and golf on both days at Adelaide Shores golf course. We were treated to two good days of competition, some great scores being recorded. My 31 and 34 did not rate! Back to the Gold Coast on Jetstar Wednesday night.

WAGA brochures for Monterey and the Spring Cup in September on the Gold Coast were popular. Remember, with the Spring Cup, there is a further day available, a round of golf at Lakelands where the player will participate in the Variety Club round which is a charity for children, a very worthy cause.

Monterey closes on the 27th of April and whilst there are spots available, it will be a case of those applying first will be assured of a spot. The Australian dollar is still above par with the US dollar which makes a golfing holiday to the States even more attractive.

Happy golfing,

Brian Lassen; WAGA – armlass@optusnet.com.au

Golfing news

Hi all,

It is now two weeks since the event concluded in Buenos Aires. WAGA were successful in the 0-16 group with Mark Lim (Can) winning and Jack Penty (Usa) second. WAGA was not so lucky in the 17-36 group with 7th being the best achieved. Marie Bambo (Usa) came second in the ladies group with Veronique Herbinet (Fra) 4th and Dorothy Consolo (Usa) 5th. All in all, a good result. If you have photographs of the event and would like them published on this website, please email them to armlass@optusnet.com.au

WAGA are now gearing up for Monterey in May. This is your chance to play in the Pebble Beach area at a vast reduction in costs. WAGA has achieved the room requirements for the Hilton but with increased interest, there are more rooms available and also golfing spots. It is looking like we will start with a record group.

The Spring Cup – Gold Coast; September. The Variety Club of Australia, a charity that helps children has asked WAGA to join them at the end of our event. Friday the 7th of September is their day at Lakelands GC and this is your opportunity to get behind an event that will help those less fortunate than ourselves. Special rates will be available at the Radisson Hotel for those who wish to extend their stay and join WAGA in helping the children who benefit from this charity. So plan your holiday and join WAGA for a week of fun and then we will play in the charity day. All applicants for the WAGA week will be reminded of the charity day.

Happy golfing,

Brian Lassen; WAGA.

South America

The scores have been placed in the system and photographs should be there by Friday. It was a big week and the weather did not really help. However, all players seem to have had a good time. How did WAGA players fare?

Men 0-16 WAGA players secured first and second places with Mark Lim winning and Jack Penty runner up.

Men 17-36. Did not do so well in this field, securing a 7th and 9th position.

Ladies – a 2nd, 4th and 5th…well done the ladies.

Monterey is our next objective, if you thinking of coming, might I suggest that you apply sooner rather than later……It will be a full field.

Golf from Buenos Aires

I wish I could have been more positive but the weather did play bad tricks.

I have asked the tournament organisers to provide the scores so that I can place them on the scoreboard. I made the flight but it was a long 14.30minute trip in economy. Whilst away, I have had applications for Monterey. We can accept another 20 only.

Hopefully, I will have the photographs from Sth America and the scores this week.

Golf in Buenos Aires

The first day of golf was cancelled due to bad weather. It has not changed and we are still struggling

with rain and hot weather. But we did have some good scores yesterday and today we play Olivos golf course.

Scores on the website are not complete as golf was not finished last night until 7pm.

I will try to clear today.

Happy golfing and regards from Buenos Aires

Brian Lassen, WAGA

Well the golf has finished! We have not had the best of weather with golf being delayed each day.

I cannot give you the scores as they are not full avbl just now.

Yesterday golf at Olivos was delayed 2hrs due weather and the course was very wet.

Today was better but again wet and hot. Many are going to leave tonight. Was it good. Yes it was and

if the event is held next year, you shld come…..

WAGA news

Hi all,

Recent visitors to the website will have noticed a curious symbol on the right hand side of the first page, above items. It is Q R code, rather common to many parts of the world but a new one in Australia. If you have the scanning app on your mobile phone, then you can run it across the Q R code and it will deliver the WAGA website to your phone, thus allowing you to refresh your memory of events or show friends about WAGA. All in all, good for you and great for WAGA.

I am off to Buenos Aires on Monday and play commences on Tuesday. WAGA have provided 30% of the field and daily scores will be on the website, fingers crossed. Photographs and possibly a video will be available upon my return on the 4th of March.

Monterey and Gold Coast still have vacancies so if you or friends are interested, download a registration form and send it to me.

Happy Golfing,

Brian Lassen.
