Monterey California Golf Tour with WAGA May/June 2012
Join us 28 May – 1 June 2012 on the WAGA Monterey California Golf Tour
If America has a counterpart to St. Andrews – Scotland’s ancestral home of golf – it is the Monterey Peninsula in California.
For many years, golfers have made the pilgrimage to play the Old Course at St. Andrews, the original seaside links and the oldest course in the world. In the United States, the mecca for golfers is a stretch of spectacularly rugged shoreline that is home to Cypress Point and numerous golf courses, including Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill.
Whilst the World Airline Golfing Alliance would love to say that on this occasion, we will play those courses; circumstances dictate that we will not. But the area has so many renowned golf courses, WAGA was fortunate to find suitable alternate golf destinations.
So book your holidays, book your airfares and join WAGA in Monterey, the 28th of May until the first of June, 2012.

Photos of Bordeaux event
I have placed 94 photos of the WAGA event in Bordeaux, France, on the website. To view these beautiful photos click on the album
They contain a mixture of the golfers, the final dinner and then some of the areas we visited after the event.
It was a great event, made better by the GM of the hotel, Henry Martinet and his staff. Golf du Medoc Hotel and Spa is definitely a place to visit and just enjoy yourself in the Medoc area of France. If you have a comment about the tournament, please email it to me and I will have it published.
We are still accepting entries for Cairns, Sun City and Lake Taupo.
Planning is in progress for 2012 events with options on Mission Hills, China; Buenos Aires; Monterey and Gold Coast.
Happy golfing,
Brian Lassen; WAGA

The weather is perfect and both golfers and non-golfers are enjoying the French
ambience. The hotel is most comfortable all are enjoying their stay. Today, Wednesday, golfers
play The Vines course and non-golfers visit local vineyards and enjoy lunch.
The Vines course proved easier than the Chateau course and scores were higher. Best of the
day was Lynne Malone; Joy Sampson and Stanley Rothman who had 41 points each. Joanna Ambron won a NTP as did Derek Gascoine.
Non-golfers returned from their vineyard visit and lunch in a quite relaxed mode.
The scores shown above indicate how close is the competition and play today at the
Chateau course will be tough: Weather is clear and warm. Final results will be on
the web-site later today.
The last day of competition was held on a cloudy and cool day. The NTP prizes went to Jim Smalley and Derek Gasgoine. Mal Conden from Australia had a hole in one on the 5th.
Winner on countback was Christine Beattie and Jack Schrandt was runner-up. All scores are shown above.
Happy golfing; Brian Lassen – WAGA

En-route to Bordeaux
After an early morning start, WAGA left on Jetstar for Sydney and then Qf to Jarkarta. Here we are for 6hrs waiting for connection to Dxb and the Cdg and then Bod…I think Jen and I will be a little weary by the time we arrive.
All is good I feel, no cancellations and weather appears kind. Scores will be on the website each day…
Happy golfing, Brian Lassen; WAGA

Back from California
Jen and I visited California in late April with a view for a tournament for May 2012.
We checked out San Francisco, Monterey and Carmel. Plenty of good hotels, great golf courses and prices were reasonable, certainly for Aussies as our dollar is very strong. Shopping was also very good according to Jen. There are 56 photos of general interest now on the web.
We leave for Bordeaux on 13/5/11 and have 30 golfers and 8 non-golfers. Sun City is also popular as is Lk. Taupo.
WAGA are facing a huge challenge with Cairns in September. A cyclone, too much rain and poor media have left the area facing a huge tourist problem. WAGA are feeling the affect of these natural dramas and a new advertising programme has been launched to compensate for the mixed feelings about the area. Since WAGA started in 1998, it has not cancelled an event but at this stage, it is being considered. If you want to come, if you have friends, let me know. We need applicants!

Honolulu results
The select group who chose to come to Honolulu are enjoying the wonderful hotel, weather and the ambience of Hawaii. The Pete Dye course, Luana Hills was a true test of golf with Ko Olina being the best of the three courses.
Wednesday was a fine day here on the west side of Hawaii and the sunset cruise on the Makani was fun.
Thursday was another fine day and golf was at Hawaii Prince. Good conditions suited all players but the eventual winner was unchallenged! Travelling back to the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani was an experience with our bus breaking down near the airport. Still we managed to make the final dinner at the Sheraton Moana which all agreed was simply fabulous.
