Three weeks to go!!!!!

Today is the 28th of March. In three weeks, WAGA leave for Kuala Lumpur. We have 49 golfers and 20 non-golfers. Tourism Malaysia is on board and all guests will receive welcome gifts.

Spain - WAGA have 24 golfers and 8 non-golfers. I had hoped for more but I hope that people might yet apply. Where are the Europeans?

Sunshine Coast - applications are steady, not great but steady…Graeme Tearall and 3 friends applied this week.

Palm Springs - will fill, looking great..Terri Davis applied this week.

Queenstown - will fill. Jim Clarke and 5 friends applied this week.

The recession has gripped and many governments are decrying it. Rubbish! It certainly has affected WAGA and similar businesses. We can only try and produce tournaments that are cost effective and affordable. That has always been our aim and now we are more concerned than ever. Airlines loads are down, tourism is down, our lives have been changed and they will read about it in history books…

What can we do? Live and enjoy, there isn’t much more, is there?

I hope that WAGA fill your ideals of event, if you wish to promote a destination, let me know.

2010. Possibly Wales, Vietnam, Dominican Republic and there will be an event on the Gold Coast.

WAGA Up-date

Hello everybody,

It has been two weeks since my last up-date. Bit of golf, bit of oral surgery, bit of travel to be with an elderly mother. You know the routine, it keeps you busy even in retirement!

Four weeks on Saturday, the WAGA group will be assembling in Kuala Lumpur for the 24th International Airline Cup. Our group remains the same, 49golfers and 19 non-golfers. Spain will be the second event and this week I received another two applications - great!

Sunshine Coast has seen one of the winners from Christchurch apply, Tracie and Dean Curry from San Francisco. Spots are still available.

All other events for 2009 have spots available.

Sponsorship - WAGA could not survive without it and we are fortunate in that Australia Golf Digest have come on-board again and in the April edition, on pg 144, you will see an advertisment for WAGA under Tailor-Made Global Golf Events. Please recommend it to friends and fellow golfers.

When we had the 21st International Airline Cup in Cardrona, Scotland in 2005, Macdonald Hotels were our hosts. WAGA are using them again in Spain in June. Our contact there, Jason Schellenburg has joined Preferred Hotel Group(www.preferredhotelgroup.com) and through their Australian representative, they are offering substantial discounts. Please contact WAGA or cholmes@preferredhotelgroup.com and mention WAGA.

2010. Options, Dominican Republic, Wales, Gold Coast and Vietnam. Obviously WAGA will wait and see what the remainder of 2009 produces but they are good options. In Wales, you will have the option to see the Ryder Cup, visit Ireland and play the K Club, Druid’s Glen and Portmarnock. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

The 24th International Airline Cup - Malaysia

It is now only 44 days until the welcome dinner for the 74 folk attending this event. The hotel, golf courses, Tourism Malaysia and WAGA staff are looking forward to entertaining this international group of players and non-golfers. The hotel has provided a generous pre and post rate for WAGA attendees! Contact armlass@optusnet.com.au for details.

The Costa del Sol tournament in June has so far attracted 22 golfers and 7 non-golfers. Players from Dubai, USA and Australia will participate. There are still spots available should you wish to join us at Malaga, a wonderful seaside resort on the eastern shores of Spain.

The Sunshine Coast in Queensland has attracted 30 entries to-date and there is plenty of space for new entrants. The great courses, weather and low costs make this an ideal winter destination. The Crowne Plaza Pelican Waters is our host for the event and being located on the Greg Norman designed Club Pelican course, is an ideal place to have a very inexpensive winter holiday.

Palm Springs, California. Bookings are very steady and indications are that this event will indeed fill. Easy for our American friends who can drive there but in addition, Qantas have just introduced record low airfares from Australia to west coast USA, a staggering $971AUD return. This should assist any Aussies pondering whether to attend the Palm Springs event. It is also an easy way to get to Spain via New York.

Queenstown , New Zealand in November. Bookings are steady with quite a few folk just wondering world events will take us during the year.

At WAGA, we have always relied on the quality and low cost of our events to self-promote and then we have you, the readers who bring friends and promote events. Thank you! Keep doing that and we hope to see you at an event in 2009.

Happy golfing

Brian Lassen, WAGA.
