WAGA meets WAGA
WAGA (World Airline Golfing Alliance) met last week with WAGA (Western Airlines Golfing Alumini) in Mesquite, Nevada.
Not quite a first but it was great to see old friends. Dick Wood(Wales), Judy Dressler(Fancourt Sth Africa), Mike and Kim Doyle, Terry and Connie Richardson(Phuket), Greg and Marie Bambo(Christchurch) and would you believe, Thomas Stark from Park City, Utah…
Despite what we are told, the recession is out there. In Mesquite, they are about to close casinos and the same applies for Las Vegas.. It is tough! WAGA will continue to try to find events that are affordable and enjoyable.
WAGA and WAGA played the Palmer and Canyon courses at the Oasis Golf club and found them to be tough but fun.
The return journey to Los Angeles was via Palm Springs and you may expect a decision shortly on an event there. It was wonderful, great courses, hotel, food etc etc. Check the web site for a decision shortly.
enjoy your golf

Three weeks can make a difference!
It was only a little over 3 weeks ago when I returned from New Zealand and had a great round of golf at Lakelands, scoring 41 points. The following week I played with the Gold Coast Veterans and again broke handicap. With my handicap reduced by 3 shots, I thought at long last I am on the improve. Playing on Wednesday at Lakelands in their Master’s Day, it all came apart. Three weeks ago, 41 points, this time, 17 points. Talk about from a rooster to a feather duster!
If you live in Australia and watched chanel 9 Getaway programme last night, you had a double bonus. It had a great show on Kuala Lumpur so that those who are coming to the 24th IAC in April had a taste treat and then they had a show on Queenstown tourism has been affected by world events. This means that we could run an event there at a most affordable price and WAGA are seriously considering an event there later next year. For Americans, it is very cheap and even for Australians, our dollar is OK.
The 24th IAC, Costa del Sol and The August Cup events still have spots for those who are contemplating joining us for some great golf and fun.
A decision for an event in the latter part of 2009 will be made later this month.
Happy golfing

WAGA November up-date
Welcome all from a sunny, warm day on the Gold Coast. At 31deg C, it is almost too hot for golf. By now, many of you have viewed the 39 photographs of the recent Christchurch event. The number of comments received tell me that it was by far, the best event for 2008. I have arranged for the results of that tournament to be moved from Latest News to Golf Tour Results.
2009. April – Malaysia, bookings moving steadily. In Australia on 13th November, chanel 9 will air a programme on Kuala Lumpur under the Getaway show at 7.30pm. Well worth a look for those who are going or if you were thinking of joining our group of 80 plus.
June – Costa del Sol is still attracting interest but we would like some more company so think about a holiday and golfing, it has it all!
August - Sunshine Coast, Australia. Attracting a fair bit of interest and it is a place for those Australians who see their dollar diminish in value against overseas currencies.
Later this month, WAGA will announce the decision on the planned 4th event for 2009.
Under consideration are Palm Springs, Mesquite, Kona, Honolulu – USA. Queenstown New Zealand is also being considered as the Crowne Plaza Hotel have offered the WAGA group a very competitive quote.
I understand that in this critical financial crisis, some things have to be put aside and the WAGA product could be one of those. With the election of a new American President, a move downwards in world interest rates, it is hoped that affairs will improve. At WAGA, we pride ourselves on providing quality hotels, quality golf courses and great fun, and all at the lowest possible price! So please remember to pass this website on to friends, fellow employees and golfers, I am sure that they will thank you for it.
Happy golfing,
Brian Lassen, WAGA

The 39 photographs
Before we had 38 photographs, now we have the 39th. It is a picture of 18 non-golfers joined by a golfer who elected to have a day touring rather than being blown away at Terrace Downs. I beleive it was a wonderful day and enjoyed by all.
WAGA have been very lucky with sponsorship and one in particular stands out. Always willing to provide prizes, Brett Tucker and PGF Golf provide high quality equipment at a most reasonable price. To check out their iventory, see www.pgfgolf.com or email pgfsales@pgfgolf.com. Mention WAGA and I am sure you will receive a great price.
Our second major sponsor has been Sporte Leisure and Kevin Dart. Superb clothing, jackets, bags and other accessories! View www.sporte-leisure.com.au and email Kevin Dart at dartman1@optushome.com.au
Please remember to invite friends and fellow golfers to view the WAGA website.
Regards, Brian Lassen; WAGA.
