The Sunshine Cup - August 2009. WAGA 3rd event.

Hi everybody,

Well it has taken a little while but now the 3rd WAGA event for 2009 is on the web. The August Cup being held on the Sunshine Beach in Queensland, Australia, is on the web for you to pass on to friends and fellow golfers. August is a great winter month in Queensland, the selection of courses, activities and the hotel make this an event not to miss!

Christchurch - now totally full with 64 golfers and 17 non-golfers.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - a record 14 enquiries last Monday and is steadily filling. Don Peterson who is coming to Christchurch say he has another 14 entries.

Costa del Sol, Spain - a flurry of interest initially but then with world events, slowing down a little. Over 28% full!

The August Cup, Sunshine Coast, Australia - brochure being emailed as you read this, surely a winner.

USA in October - WAGA are still working on this venue, world events will assist with the decision.

Happy golfing, remember, please pass on the website and brochure information to friends and fellow golfers.

Thank you,

Brian Lassen, WAGA.

WAGA have chosen 3 great courses and to ensure that your stay is enjoyable, the superb Crowne Plaza Pelican Waters Hotel.

Record application day

Yesterday, the 22nd of September, saw WAGA field 14 application enquiries for the 24th IAC to be held in Kuala Lumpur in April 2009. This was a high for WAGA and indicates just how much interest is being generated for this event.

Coming events:

Christchurch has 61 golfers and 16 non-golfers. There are 3 golfing spots still available and plenty of non-golfing spots, remember, they invariably have more fun!

24th IAC ; 32 people have booked and with the 14 enquiries yesterday, the field is almost half booked! AirAsia today offered fares from Coolangatta of $239AUD one way including taxes, ex Melbourne $259 including taxes and from Perth, $129. Remember, this is one way but includes taxes…it is a real deal!

Costa del Sol, Spain: WAGA have 17 booked which is more than 20% at this stage.

The August Cup, Sunshine Coast. This event to be held in August 2009 will be on the web-site later this week. WAGA approved the art work today and it has been forwarded to the web-site designer to be placed on the site. Great time, great weather, great programme!

PGF Golf Intl have agreed to offer WAGA real discounts on purchase of golf equipment and it is hoped that in the near future there will be a link for you to purchase on-line.

If you have a suggestion or an idea about future programmes, contact Brian at either armlass@optusnet.com.au or brian@wagagolf.com

This has been a topsy turvy week in the financial world and WAGA continue to monitor world events, especially with the proposed 4th event for 2009 in USA. A final decision will be made later this year.

Happy golfing!

World Airline Golfing Alliance Sep up-date

Hi, well the sunny Gold Coast is not living up to its history. Over the past 48 hours, 4 plus inches of rain have fallen making golf a no no, tourism a no no but there is always the shopping. WAGA have been busy concluding the Christchurch tournament which takes place in 38 days with 61 golfers and 16 non-golfers. Lets hope the weather in Chc is better than that at the Gold Coast now. Registration is on Monday the 13th October at the Holiday Inn, City Centre.

2009. Malaysia is on the web and interest is good. But there are some things to say. Firstly, WAGA requested the deposit in ringit but have been unable to open an account. If you are coming to the event, fill out the form and pay the deposit by cheque/wire transfer/credit card in either AUD, GBP, EUR, NZD, USD. A quick trip to www.xe.com will give the conversion of 400myr to one of the above currencies.

Airfares - MAS have offered the following:-

Lax-Kul-Lax 5965myr inc tax

Akl-Kul-Akl 4579myr inc tax

Hkg-Kul-Hkg 1457myr inc tax

Nrt-Kul-Nrt 2974myr inc tax

Lhr-Kul-Lhr 5015myr inc tax

Cdg-Kul-Cdg 5841myr inc tax

Fra-Kul-Fra 5597myr inc tax

Mel-Kul-Mel 3376myr inc tax

Bne-Kul-Bne 3434myr inc tax

Syd-Kul-Syd 3413myr inc tax

Adl-Kul-Adl 33418myr inc tax

Per-Kul-Per 3198myr inc tax.

Are these fares good? I do not believe so and feel that careful research via the web might produce cheaper fares. Certainly AirAsia offer much better fares from Australian ports. Singapore, Bankgkok have numerous low cost carriers operating to Kul and they are worthy of investigation. I leave it to you and if you want the MAS fare, contact me at armlass@optusnet.com.au or brian@wagagolf.com

Costa del Sol, Spain is filling nicely with about 30% now booked. Applications have come from Toronto, New York, California, Auckland, Wales and Australia.

The August Cup will be held at the Sunshine Coast from August 3 to 7, 2009. Staying at the Crowne Plaza Pelican Waters, you will play Club Pelican, North Lakes and Pacific Harbour. A brochure should be on the website next week.

A decision on either Palm Springs, Kona or Honolulu will be made shortly. Timing will be in the first two weeks of  October 2009.

Remember, there are no printed brochures but they are all available on the website and again I ask that you tell fellow golfers and friends about it.

 Happy golfing! Brian Lassen
