Lake Como firsts
A first. The 4 day event was reduced to 3 days of play and it was decided that the best two scores would count for prizes.Week 1 of the WAGA Lake Como ended with a spectacular dinner at a local restaurant. Many of the contestants have left the area but a few are staying on to enjoy the area.
Another first. Play yesterday was at La Pinetina golf course and due to the wet weather, carts were not allowed. The ground was seriously wet but the players enjoyed the course and its location.
Another first. Four nearest to the pins were awarded thus allowing more contestants a chance to take home a prize. Prizes went to Rob Meek, Jim Smalley, Dottie Consolo and Anne Flanagan.
Another first. It is the first time that Brian Lassen made a mistake with the ladies scores, awarding first prize to Cristine Wimmer when in fact she came second. It was not until score sheets were handed out that the mistake was noticed. The correct winner Alisi Gilsenan was very kind to Brian and Cristine was generous with her comments. Brian was and still is extremely embarrassed.
Winners of the Lake Como week 1 were:-
Men. Joe Hughes(Aus) 70, Mike Allen(USA) 69, Mal Condon(Aus) 68 and Nev Monk(Aus) 66.
Ladies. Alisi Gilsenan(Aus) 65, Cristine Wimmer(Ger) 64, Chris Pettit(Aus) 63 and Maria Tomara(USA) 62 was fourth on a countback from Linda Allen(USA).
Week 2 starts on Sunday with 10 golfers and 11 non-golfers.

Lake Como day 3
Well the weather is not being full cooperative. Tuesday at Monticello, no carts were allowed and the course was quite wet. This was reflected in the scores where most players did not improve on the previous day. Male winner on the day was Don Peterson, USA with 34 points whilst Dottie Consolo, USA had 30 points. Nearest to the pin was won by Mal Condon and the ladies prize went unclaimed.
Wednesday the group travelled to Milan, viewing Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” and then into central Milan for a guided tour of the Duomo. Lunch followed and then the keen shoppers were given time to make purchases. The group returned to Lake Como and had a night to themselves.
Thursday golf was to be at Menaggio golf course but the weather put a stop to that plan. Constant rain made the course dangerous so the match was cancelled. Golfers then joined non-golfers for a tour of Villa Carlotta and then lunch at Bellagio. A return to Como was made on a private speedboat.
Tomorrow is the last day of competition and will be held at La Pinetina golf course with the presentation dinner that evening.
